LILA – a short film by Carlos Lascano

.Written, Directed & Animated by CARLOS LASCANO

Lila is a dreamy girl who can’t accept reality to be as flat as she perceives it, so she uses her imagination and her skills to change it.

Starring: Alma García as Lila

About Carlos Lascano

Carlos Lascano is a multi-disciplinary artist and award winning animator/director based in Madrid, Spain.  LILA is his second animation selected into the HOLLYWOOD SHORTS programming – A Shadow of Blue was featured in 2013.

Carlos’ Bio

carloslascano_photoDirector, illustrator, writer, and animator. In the past few years he has developed a universe of his own, where all his different forms of expression merge together in creating a whole, personal world.

His restless renaissance spirit has always pushed him in the search of the improvement and fusion of every kind of visual art: owner of a very personal style, his mixing of digital tools and real objects brought a new organic aesthetic concept to animation, area in which his artistic activity has been successfully devoted to for the last few years.

His work alternates between commercial and narrative projects. Within his extensive résumé, a Goya Awards nomination, a Preselection to the Academy Awards, and over 30 international prizes are to be found, as well as a participation as a jury -presided by David Lynch- in the Animation Category of Vimeo’s First Festival+Awards, held in New York in 2010.

His ability to tell stories and arouse emotions in the viewer have contributed to the massive spread of his work, earning him international recognition and making him a reference point in modern animation.

In 2011, Carlos was chosen by Amnesty International to write, coproduce and direct the official spot for their 50th anniversary, project in which he worked alongside Oscar winner Hans Zimmer.

Later that year, the Coca Cola company summoned Carlos to direct the official animated commercial spot the brand presented at the 2012 Eurocup.

Venue renovation! Dim Mak Studios is now THE ATTIC

RENOVATION ALMOST COMPLETE!!

Hollywood Shorts - December 2013 screeningWe will soon be announcing our revised spring screening schedule as our home for many years, Cinespace… a.k.a. Dim Mak Studios, goes through a new transformation with a new name:

THE ATTIC

The new dates for our 2014 African American ShortsFest and our annual Women Directors fest will be confirmed shortly, as well as our regular monthly screenings.

Our venue sponsor The Blvd Group is completing a series of renovations on both the screening room and the lounge that will happen throughout the year.  First up is the screening room!  I got a peek at the space and it looks amazing!

Today they are installing the sound and AV system, and if all goes according to plan, we will be able to get back to our regular schedule just a few more weeks.

Thanks for your patience, as we await our renewed and refreshed screening room.

We will be referring to the venue for now as THE ATTIC, but it is the same address and location that maintains the spirit, and history of Cinespace – and the indie film community it has supported over the years.

The video features some amazing young people from PLAYGROUND OF DREAMS, an innovative mentoring program teaming entertainment industry leaders with children to foster their creativity, leadership, and unique purpose in the world.  The project brings together a lovely visual style with the powerful lyrics in Vassy’s empowerment anthem. Vassy and Kate will both be in attendance!

SUMMER SATURDAY!!

We continue our summer gatherings with a special SATURDAY Filmmaker Happy Hour and Screening!!!

This weekend’s Filmmaker Happy Hour welcomes the cast and crew of our second SUMMER SHOOT of 2013.  We are exploring the process of developing and creating a web series, and we began principal photography this week in a great location in Pasadena.  Meet some of the amazing crew and sponsors who have been so critical in making this Summer Shoot so successful.

This month, we welcome home one of our favorite alumni – award winning filmmaker & screenwriter PAULA GOLDBERG.  She will be giving us a sneak peek of her brand new short film WATERSHED and sharing some of her process and insights on our filmmaker panel.  Paula screened her short film Traveling Companion at the inaugural Hollywood Shorts in October of 1998, so it is very special to have her back to share her latest adventures making films in Dallas!

This month’s program also features an outstanding collection of international animation and short films.
